SUMMARY:CLIMATE GREENWASHING: HOW TO RECOGNIZE GREEN FAKES AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY OCCURRED. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE VIDEO AND ACCESS OTHER LEARNING RESOURCES. \nMaking environmental claims without being able to back them up or “greenwashing” is more prevalent than we think. On November 27\, we are excited to welcome a panel of three experts to discuss greenwashing: what it is; how it has changed; the challenge of AI; why it is a significant problem; some of the consequences; how/why other countries are moving on this; all in the context of why this is a problem for Canada. Our panelists will also discuss Bill C59 (to amend the Canada Competition Act) and private member’s Bill C-372 (an Act to ban fossil fuel advertising). We hope you can join us! \nPANELISTS\n\nChris Russill is an Associate Professor in Carleton’s School of Journalism and Communication and Academic Director at Re.Climate a centre for climate communication and public engagement.\nLeah Temper is the Director of Health and Economic Policy at the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE). She is an ecological economist and leader in environmental justice. She is co-founder of the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice and one of the world’s top 2% most cited scientists (2024).\nIris Fairley-Beam is an independent researcher based in Vancouver who works to reform the law to prevent greenwashing. Links to Iris Fairley-Beam’s editorials in Corporate Knights\, and to other pre-reading suggestions can be found below.\n\nDr. Chris Russill\nDr. Leah Temper\nIris Fairley-Beam\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nGreenwashing image above\, created from an adaptation of “oilsands1” by eryn.rickard\, CC by 2.0\, via Wikapedia Commons and “Paint roller\, border\, and banner” by Gerald_G via OpenClipart.com \n\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n
