SUMMARY:Powering Ontario's Future: Is Ontario's energy plan designed for the 21st century?
DESCRIPTION:UNFORTUNATELY\, THIS MONTHLY MEETING HAD TO BE POSTPONED DUE TO SPEAKER ILLNESS. WE WILL BE ADDRESSING THIS SUBJECT ON AN ONGOING BASIS. \nMark this date for CALL’s October learning meeting/webinar when we will do a “deep dive” on the subject of creating a clean power grid for Ontario. We will examine the assumptions and conclusions of the recent IESO Pathways to Decarbonization study\, a critique of the PC’s Powering Ontario’s Future plan\, and take a look at the just-released draft of Clean Energy Regulations. This session is especially for our members and guests and will be led by meeting producer Liz Addison along with  a group of dedicated volunteers from CALL’s Climate Advocacy Interest Group.

SUMMARY:CALL-Climate Advocacy Meeting - Wednesday\, October 18\, 2023 @ 10:00 a.m. ET
DESCRIPTION:THIS MEETING HAS ALREADY OCCURRED.  Below is useful information about the meeting and how people were coached on participating in focused advocacy work around the Federal Draft CER (Clean Electricity Regulations) legislation in order for it to move forward. \nA video recording of this session is available by clicking here (Use PASSCODE cY26^JS1) \nAt this meeting\, our own Janet Haynes Graham kicked things off by summarizing the key provisions in the CER and highlighting the national campaign against the regulations by Alberta’s Premier.  Janet’s slides are attached here as a PDF. \nThen our guest Ken Love\, shared how he participates in the public consultation process\, specifically on submitting to the online consultation tool for the Draft CER (Clean Electricity Regulations).  Ken’s slides are attached here as a PDF. \n  \n“Action of the Day” – Draft Clean Electricity Regulations \nAt CALL\, we always include an Action of the Day at our monthly meetings – it’s a small action that’s connected to the meeting’s topic. Even though our monthly learning meeting of October 4th was not able to go on as planned (due to speaker illness)\, we did ask everyone to take up our planned “Action of the Day” to endorse and promote the Federal\, Draft Clean Electricity Regulations (CER). There was urgency there because the public consultation process ended on November 2nd. \nOther information we provided: \n\nThese regulations are critically important to achieving net-zero targets – there’s not much value to electrifying our cars and our heating if the electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. You can learn about the CER from this blog post at the Canadian Climate Institute.\nCER detractors have mounted a blatant disinformation campaign aimed at the Canadian public\, urging them to complain to their MPs. It’s been funded by the Alberta government\, which they don’t reveal until the bottom of the long-scrolling webpage. We need to combat this negative campaign to prevent any delay in the CER implementation.\nACTION: Please Email your MP and your MPP (or the equivalent in your province) to tell them that you are among the many citizens who support the CER\, that you understand how critical these regulations are for reducing Canada’s CO2 emissions\, and that the CER needs to be implemented now.\nYou can find email addresses for federal MPs here and for Ontario MPPs here. (A Google search should work for those in other provinces.)\n\n  \n– Karen Sadlier Brown & Michael Barkley\, Co-Leads/Facilitators \nClimate Advocacy Interest Group\, CALL \ne-Mail: advocacy.action@climatelearners.ca
